Yes, just checking in…

August 26, 2008

to say thanks for all the sweet wishes on our anniversary. It was a great day! I kept thinking, “18 years? Really?” It is almost surreal in some respects.

Anyway, friends took the boys for the evening so we could go out to eat. Fried shrimp and fried grits at a local diner. The table was sticky but man, the fried fare was amazing.

Of course, I’ll be eating my tomato and mozzarella cheese salad all week long to recoup the damage. It was totally worth it.

It is still raining here. Fay, the geriatric hurricane, that wouldn’t leave Florida has decided to Sunday drive through Georgia for a time. Our area definitely needed the rain, but some people are re-looking ark plans. The worst part has been the constant tornado sirens, watches and warnings. Ever since the spate of Mother’s Day tornadoes that created havoc, many people are still quite nervous with the constant beeping, ringing and wailing that comes with all the alerts. Ourselves included.

However, we continue to press on and find inside entertainment to stave off cabin fever. Letting the boys play outside between the rain storms (the ones that don’t contain thunder and lightning accompaniment) has worked to an extent. Beyond that, I’m considering laps in the basement or *shudder* going to the mall for some indoor race walking.

We are reading this week about colonial life though, so as the boys are duly impressed with the ease of their hardships compared to the colonists, cabin fever is the worst of things compared to emptying chamberpots!

Perspective gives a healthy countenance.

I often think about life from that perspective. Up here in Minnesota, cabin fever is a reality from November until March (or even April). But at least we have indoor playgrounds, indoor pools, malls and countless other ways to get out of the house and mingle with others. (Not to mention indoor plumbing versus an outhouse in -30 weather.)

    I’m thankful to live today.

    You have a mall? We don’t have a mall. I miss having a mall……

(Just adding to the perspective theme….) 🙂
