It’s been one year of blogging…

May 25, 2007

for me.  Although I started reading blogs a little over two years ago, I wasn’t convinced that it was the online experience for me to pursue.

Basically what threw me to the blogging life was a desire to stay mentally active and studious through the summer months.  Other major priorities of Bible teaching and school ceased around the end of May and I was loathe to feel idleness creeping in.  While I have certainly enjoyed the experience of blogging, slow start and all, I firmly believe that its hold on me must be loose.  That if at any time practicality of life and its demands or sluggishness towards spiritual discipline occurred because of blogging, that I have to be willing to relinquish it.  I enjoy the ties of blogging, but I don’t want to be chained to it.

Blogging has an introspective quality encumbered by its extroverted nature.  Here a blogger sits typing out innermost thoughts, ideas, opinions and linty brain scuttlebutt for all the internet world to see.  It’s an odd combination.

Blogging is certainly not neutral either as any blogger attempts to best convey his/her take on a matter, whether current political crisis or spiritual application, and receives some validation in the readers’ response to it, both positive and negative.  For me, blogging is not only about sharing what I’ve learned Biblically, discussing current trends and ideas, journaling of humorous stories and events, chronicling ideas, and even self-teaching (by the practice of) how to become a better writer.

My blogging is imperfect and subject to criticism–just ask my editorial board.  But my blogging is also an expression of my desire to encourage every reader to think with completion the thoughts in his/her head, tested against Scripture in every applicable manner.

For that reason alone, I’ll continue to blog.  Hope you enjoy the time spent together over the screen.  Thank you for the many that have encouraged and sharpened me in this practice.

Congratulations! This is a nice post. I’m glad you’re continuing, and I share your concern that my own ties to blogging stay loose. I’ve enjoyed time spent over the screen with you, and I look forward to future time well spent – your complete thoughts are often very thought provoking.

Mommy Dearest, I knew we were kindred spirits! Happy blogiversary to you too!

Thanks, Jules, Barbara H., and Rebekah for the well wishes. I’ll stick with it as long as God allows!

To me blogging with other Christian women is like chatting over the fence while we hang our laundry. Little momentary blessings, or deep introspective thoughts, accompanied with humor and mutual support.

It’s a way to “think out loud” and be forced to be articulate.

Congratulations on your year of blogging.

I join the other ladies in congratulating you on hitting the one year mark! I’m glad you plan to continue; your commitment to writing in a way that encourages thoughtful consideration of Biblical truth is a real contribution to the blog world.
